    If you were going to be reloading and this was solely for varmints, then I'd go for 204 Ruger.
    Shouldn't be much more than 223 to reload, almost no kick, be a bit quieter than larger rounds and wont heat up your barrel as quick as other rounds.

    17hmr is good but after 150m in the wind it's not easy.
    223 is good too, cheap factory ammo, can be used on goats and deer too. But for flat shooting, wind bucking, varmint exploding goodness 204 Ruger would be my pick.
