Rotorua lakes, have never shot any but have seen them in some camp grounds.

Think they are more or less around any of the lakes.
Could either ask DOC more questions or wait until someone more knowledgeable replies.

I have seen them around the lakes, very skittish little buggers and a bit hard to get a shot at.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Not big foot??? around the lakes is riddled with the little buggers can be a bit hit or miss, same deal as most other critters early mornings and evenings around the bush edges, if you do stumble across them in the scrub theyll only hop no more than 10m and stop to look back, ours are only little rats compared to down south though

if you can't knock em over with the rifle there's plenty on the road at night - That nice long straight is a beauty for them at change of light. One even ran out into the door of the exploder one night..

North Island Wallabies are the Darma Wallaby and are much smaller than the South Island Variety.

I used to get regularly asked to cull them them on a Landcorp farm near Rotoma in the 1980's.

We hunted evenings until dark, took a break for a couple of hours then spotlighted until the early hours

Was easy to get a hundred or more in a night working as a two man team.

    One with a 222 and one with a 12ga.

Tried to get back onto the Farm recently but got told to bugger off, Farm policy is no shooting.

Seems times have changed some what.

Shame really as the do make good eating and good Pets.

    Cheers
    Pete
