    Possum hunting west coast

Looking east up the valley. Familiar to any SI members

Access to park from road .

Line skinned out ,dog taking a well earned break .Lake Kanieri ,pest control.

Couple of months pest control after a SI holiday turned into work but not a bad place to be
    during the roar.

The top photo is most likely taken from my brother in laws farm. I cant remember the old owners but it looks pretty close to his block across the road from styx base and up the rd a bit?

Hunting is still ok but ya wont find a coon to save yourself.

Had a dairy farm & a few deer as well.

Yeah he only bought it 10-15 yrs ago, new shed as well.I cant for the life of me remember the bloke that used to own it. It looks right to me. The next farm up was the last before you hit the lower styx bridge??
No deer now due to the heavy poison. I have only seen one deer on the property since he has owned it but I dont hunt it much if at all. I remember getting all excited when he bought it. It used to have 2 awesome duck ponds and like you said a few deer. Deer are poisoned and ponds drained.

    Cool Chris.

Sounds like the same property ,Stags seemed to be every where. Couple round the back of lake nutting off each morning, was another lived just up the road 1/2 km from Styx access gate. And round behind the lodge & up that creek was worth a look.

This stag was taken across the Styx from the sign by the gate ,was living in the fringe by the river. That area up the road from the bridge was interesting too.

I never bother with the area as you are unlikely to get a good one. Thats not saying there is not any there. It gets scented up/disturbed by retards anyway. I have never seen so many people around as I have this year. And they are stupid enought to walk in after the same animal.
I prefer the hoki river area if I can be bothered. Getting worse every year in the amount of people that are cramming in to small areas because they cant find anything else.

1 of your pet stags gave my old dog a hiding early morning , he did try to bail the big bugger (stupid ). Only let him out for a pee .
Pretty much the same every where now R93 .Most walk in past a large number of animals before they start hunting, heap of deer handy to the road & round the farm edge(fringe dwellers ). Seemed to be in that area .
Is that Rakia heard still producing good head now ?

It's getting like that all round 93, apparently there was 20 shooters on the Lert (SP?) this roar. We were seeing an average of 8-10 choppers a day as well. Didn't even get into some of the favoured spots. It sucked.

Unfortunately the Rakaia is buggered imho, as well. To many animals have escaped from stations like Manuka point and Aldigus. Tb scares and and people. Huge deer have been coming out of the area but they are not typical of the rakaia strain. May as well shoot a paddock deer. Of courrse the upper Hoki and Arahura areas will have some goodies lurking about.
I am not in touch as well as I used to be with the Hokitika area. Good for quick meat hunts. I think I will continue to only hunt South Westland during the rut as I believe it is the only place left, for a genuine, uninfluenced red deer trophy.

Your bottom right photo is on a good mates farm. He has not long built a house just east ofwhere your car is parked up on the hill.
