Rabbit Carnage with the 17 Hornet (Short film)

The Apple harvest is over so i had my first session shooting rabbits in there for the year, the 17 Hornet is just epic fun on this property.

Many of the shots could be made with the 17Hmr or even 22lr for that matter, but stinging them with the hornet is so much fun!

I hope you enjoy the footage as much as i did making it.

Great stuff. The .17HMR is an excelent choice on soft-skin targets such as bunnies.

What are you using to film those shots? A spotting scope or a telephoto lens?

Was the sound of sirens in the back ground the ambulances picking up the wounded and dead and taking them to the bunny hospital?

I was using my 17 Hornet (bigger case than 17hmr, and centrefire) 20gr vmax handloads doing 3,700 fps.

Camera is a Canon PowerShot SX50

The hornet certainly hits a lot harder than a HMR, looks like heaps of fun!

It sure does, the 17 Hornet with just the 20gr bullets, has more energy at 200 yards than the 17gr 17HMR does at the muzzle!

    It seriously is awesome fun!

Yes hell of a lot of fun! I enjoy the filming too, as it adds another dimension to the challenge ;-)

Yeah its a tiny very frangible bullet going very fast, which pretty much blows up on a blade of grass let alone a twig. No chance of a ricochet off a stone etc like a 22lr especially with subs often will.

Do you get many ricochets with the 17H?
Looks pretty flat contour where you were shooting.

In 500 odd rounds so far I've never had one, as soon as it hits ANYTHING it explodes. Hugely safer than 22lr

Nice shooting and filming , those spooks were taking a gamble at times. Nice caliber for that type of shooting.

Thanks, yeah the noisy blue bastards, they sure are tempting some times. The 17H is absolutely perfect for shooting that property.
