    Rabbit trapping anyone...Help.

We have a small issue here with a few rabbits getting into our and our neighbours plantings. It is not a safe area to use a 22 otherwise the problem would have been solved......

Wondering if anyone has used cage rabbit traps and what techniques get decent results (Baits etc)

Does anyone in CHCH area have a couple traps I could use / try before I go buy some? I dont want to buy 3 or 4 then find out a different trap would have worked better or that I got the wrong ones. I dont want to use kill traps or leg hold (Gin type) as there are other animals in the area I do not want to injure (Pukekos, parrys, pets etc)

I have tried repellant to make them eat other stuff but to no great success.

I am thinking something like this

Have you thought about gassing them? If you know where their burrows are, grab some Magtoxin or similar and get them that way. Because its a targeted solution you shouldn't need to worry about other animals as they won't be in the burrows with the rabbits.

Rabbits and Hares are bastards around young trees etc. Piling cut gorse round your young trees stops them instantly. Then you have time to snare and trap em. Cat and dog shit mashed in the watering can works as a repellant as does egg mix.
I don't think any cage traps will work, but you could look into buying some 'pindone' poison pellets and put them in areas the 'non targets' cant get to

They dug holes and shit all over my lawn – so I made a couple of wood tunnels and partially buried them – a gap in the middle with a fenn6 – a core flute cover over the trap. Rabbits and other pests love underground tunnels – I caught many rats and even a couple of large ferrets. No lure required with a Fenn6 – just let them walk on through!
    Rabbits hate Blood and Bone.
A friend down Feilding is reverting ten acres to native trees – rabbits did a lot of damage – shooting helped but a few strategically placed tunnels with Fen6 traps keeps them under control.
I have tried a cage but never managed to cage a rabbit – don’t bother to use Pindone – a rabbit has to eat more than 10 pieces to kill it.
I watch a bit of Life Below Zero on BBC Earth – various participants do winter trapping using snares – they look to be very effective. Just do a YouTube search on snaring rabbits – heaps of information – but you might get the neighbor's cat.

Use a gin trap. Make a hole with it set. Use a sifter and gently cover it with soil. Get droppings from some holes some distance away. Sprinkle them over the covered plate. Works a treat every time.

Piece of newspaper over the latch before sprinkle dirt (just a small piece)

doubt the cage trap will work magtoxin would be good or as many have said a leg hold trap just have a good think about placing it carefully to avoid other non targets

My kids have good success snaring them on a fence line or under a hedge. We have found tie wire the best. We use the lightest gauge tie wire from mitre 10.
