Nice Moose cast!
got any more detail on how they work or how you built them?
Not sure but I’m told you never just have one , I got some Victor Traps from Carol at DeadRat and made those tunnels up , no takers last night on the peanut butter any suggestions on better bait ?
Yeah the moose cast is a good one , picked it up when I was on a Dall Sheep hunt in Alaska a few years ago .
Possum paste, sunflower seeds, cheese, piece of chorizo.
bacon rind
Bacon, licorse, tunnel traps work the best the live capture ones drown them in a bucket of water to dispatch them

Wife is involved with the above link they are doing a great job
Thanks fellas , will up my game tonite with some suggested baits
Sultanas on any trap that has the ability to have bait on a hook etc.
For added effect smear peanut utter on the sultanas.
Ahhh crap (weight gained during lockdown....) Have plenty of ingredients for toffee, have to crack put the old edmounds cook book..... cant let the rats have all the toffee!
Have used a bit of cotton thread to tie things on before fiddly but worked well, wouldnt want to do it with a trap that had something in it for the last week
Peanut butter is as good a bait as you will need imo.
If you have plenty of rats i would not set the traps for the first week. I would bait the trap with a bit of pb at the entrance of the trap to encourage the rat into the box. However do not set the trap. Rats are very suspicious of new objects in there area. If you kill Bob the rat the first night and you have all Bobs mates watching some may/ will keep away from the trap as they know its dangerous. If however you have Bob and his mates going in and out of the trap for 4 or 5 days getting a free feed, then you make the trap live and whack Bob that night the other rats think whats going on here ... i know its safe because i have been in there before and they go in and get the bad news also.. Tip no3

If you want to try a real flash bait peanut butter mixed with icing sugar..
If you are trapping them outdoors where baits may go mouldy time out told me that blue goo ? possum paste i think it is ?
Finally got the Cunning Bastard or one of them

For those that use a drop-door box trap - how do you dispatch the captured rat?
FYI: I use a Crossman 177 revolver or a Benjamin BB rifle, a bit hard on the trap if you don’t line up the barrel between the mesh!
good results at the kennels last night, 3 of the bastards

We get mice and rats all year around the house, they come in when it gets cold and i've given up on traps. Just keep up with Talon baits in down pipe tubes all around. Got to keep refilling the pipes as they are hungy buggers
Hi Bully.
Here is the DOC page on how to build a rat trap tunnel. I have some of the coreflute version, but have not found the plans on the internet. You can use this plan and add coreflute for the top and side walls. Most real estate companies have coreflute they give away once a property has sold.

bluebird rashuns are awesome bait.....and you get to eat rest of bag.....the scent is strong so carries a long way....tie on with cotton.
Thanks very much Lucky for letting people know about my traps! I am also wellie.yank on Trade Me. or www.deadrat.co.nz Attachment 137533

Hi MSL,
How big is the mesh ? Those entrance holes look awfully small ?
Will put some plans for building Rat Trap tunnels on seperate Post @Dead Rat
