Thread: Reduced 223 loads

I had a play making up some reduced recoil youth loads for my M7 223 Rem for my young kids to use when then step up from the .22lr.

I wanted 22 mag to 22 hornet sort of velocities, but using a 55gr projectile. I used IMR4198 which works well for reduced loads and seems to give better grouping than H4895.

14gr gave an average of 2,111 fps, 16gr gave 2350 fps and 18gr gave 2600 fps.

They all shot pretty well, but the 14gr load was a standout and had absolutely no recoil.

Should be a bit of fun for training the young ones before they step up to full power loads at 3200 fps eventually.
