Thread: Rotorua Lakes District Wallabies

Hey Guys
Any one got any idea were there are good concentrations of these little buggers around the Rotorua lakes at the moment
want to try them in the pot.
Any private land owners who would allow access to the bush margins on their land
Ill take Hare and rabbit too

I've seen them every time I've been to DOC land in Rotorua. Not huge numbers, but definitely enough to fill the crock pot.

Hey thanks for that, yea i want to make a trip there productive if possible...mind you they may turn out to be not so appetizing

We just tried it for the first time. Not very different to beef in the crockpot.

okataina reserve go in from okareka end they are everywhere in there. doc rotorua with give you a permit to use the .22 in there. they not about much middle of day more likely just on day light.

Looks like a little car park at the end of Millars rd
and a short walk into the open hunting area somewhere there you reckon

They taste great if cooked right. Very lean so dont let them dry out.

Maurice Wilkie. He is helpful and deals with permits for hunting/trapping. Been at DoC since before DoC.

Don't know about the little fellas over there but Bennett's / Red Neck Wallaby are good eating & would be many recipes from Tasmaina as ever second bugger eats them there & where our Bennett's come from.

I think those are Dama Wallaby's but Ive seen them called Tammar in the past, wouldn't be legal to kill in Aussie I don't think as rare as, but I have eaten many types of Roo & Wallaby, near all are good, not Swamp Wallaby or Stinkers how ever !

Don't bother looking around the native in Rotoehu Forest as it has been poisoned again ( aerial 1080)on the 16 /10/20 .There used to be plenty in the native but I think they will be thin on the ground now after two drops in the last several years. Was up there today found pellets on the ground.
