Just for a bit of personal interest I did the team shooting stats for the last season - September 2021 to Sept 2022. Our squad does NOT work too hard these days - very relaxed about how often we go out, how long we stay out, and how many we shoot. Far cry from 7-15 years ago when we would literally shoot them by the ten thousand. Now virus and poisoning has taken out best local sites but still enough in Canterbury for enjoyable outings. Numbers:
North Canterbury site 2 visits - 90 bunnies - average 45.
Christchurch site 4 visits - 179 bunnies - average 45.
South Canterbury sites 3 visits - 690 bunnies/deer/wallabies - average 230.
Season total 960 - average 107 per outing
Quite happy with that. As Cantab and Otago shooters will know these numbers are taking it very easy. Could definitely shoot 5x that many if we travelled to Sth Canterbury bit more and got serious. Season's 960 a fraction of the numbers from the past when couple of times we popped more than that year's total - over 1000 - in a single evening. But ... well and truly enough for the team to have enjoyable outings and some fine shooting.
Note to self - freezer has run out of venison... Tekapo visit coming up.
