Thread: Thermal Imagers

Hey everyone,
Just putting the question if anyone has experience of cheap thermal imagers off Temu/Alibaba etc? Are they worth it or are they just crap? The reviews seem pretty good as ones here seem to go for around 5k which is a lot in today's environment but looking at a cheaper alternative.
To be used for pest control of Wallabies on our farm in South Canterbury.

Do you mean a handheld or scope? I hunt for a living and wouldn’t use temu etc for 5k you can get a decent scope

Check out the range Ken does at nightvision.co.nz, he has some hand helds from around $2500.

I run a Pard high res hand held but use a Sytong low res scope and it definitely still does the job well.

For half that the Hikmicro falcon are well worth a look, not sure on your budget as they go for around 2500 but when you look at they specs they are one of the better ones in that price range. Have used the fh25 a fair bit and have easily picked up deer in 1600m away.

i have had a look at one of the ali versions. its ok but still too much money for something with no real warranty. its not like its a $100 telescopic fake leupold etc

I have one of those infiray T2 phone camera thermals from nightvision.co.nz. It was $750 so a way cheaper alternative to the usual monoculars. I am super impressed with it. I can see rabbits out to a few hundred meters no problems (haven't really tried further than that). I can see deer and pigs out to 1km away no problem. Several people who have looked at it have commented that the image quality is not drastically different to the expensive monoculars. It is a bit more annoying having it on the phone rather than on a handheld monocular though. It is a pain not having an inbuilt range finder like some of them have. Makes sneaking up on deer harder as not much of a idea how close you are to them before you light them up with the spotlight although that would probably get easier with more experience and if you knew the area well.

It comes with stuff so you can actually set it up as a rifle scope (clipped onto a scope rail) you would just have to mount your phone to the gun too. I think it would probably work quite well, although I haven't tried it.

I have the Xinfrared xh15 here on Monday. It’s their latest version with the 384 sensor.
