Buck shot and the most open choke you own is my guess. Never hunted them myself so not 100% sure

3s-00 and I wouldn't go any more open than half coz you won't get many super close shots. It depends on how you are hunting them

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

    I use a .270cal choke.
No, really my fellow roo slayers and I use .223s out on top and open/no choke with 00 buck for scrubby prickly shit. I still think a rifle is best though as they're hard to stalk and quick to leave and 40-150 meter shots seemed to be the status quo.

I asked this question some time ago. Get lead BBs or 2's if unavailable but BBs are the best.
Through a half choke these are awesome out to about 45 -50m.
Forget the 00 or buckshot, I have never had great success with these despite having tried quite a lot of them.
Try 36grm BBs and you won't be disappointed.
Remember if they are running away from you aim for the ears, tips them up much better than one up the arse.

    +1

BB's have a good sized shot and a lot more in them than buckshot. They are also much better value. I use a reasonably tight choke and go for the head. Great for the close in bolters when walking or spotlighting at night from a vehicle.

Buckshot is expensive, use 2"s or BB, personally I prefer using a rifle (223/243)

+1 on the BB's, and modified choke in the Mossy 500
Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.

I still stand by 00 buck. I've had great success with it. If it's for up close and personal as you say it seems buck, although having less in them than 00 or #2 do a lot more damage per pellet. Mind you, we use an open/no choke and if the shotgun has to be used it's been in very very tight scrub - less than 20m say. But a rifle is still use-able. I know a farmer down there who shoots them from his deck with a .22lr!

00 buck with no choke in the scrub, with a .223 slung over my shoulder for the "long" shots.

Surpluses buckshot is the cheapest shotgun ammo I have ever bought

Sometimes, you can get no 4 buckshot from various gun shops. There is 27 pellets per load rather than the 9 pellets with 00 buck.
