Second the Bushnell, they go good. However for your purposes I would look at a low powered variable with an illuminated centerdot. Quite a few companies make 1-4x or 1.25-4x variables with illumination that can be for reasonable money. They are better than a red dot in low light and more versatile. Bushnell made a 30mm 1-4 illuminated prime for a while that goes great, they currently make a 1-6 in their trophy line. Nikko Stirling also make an illuminated 1-4 one but I have no experience with their optics. If you want to go more spendy get a leupold mark3hd or try and find a vxr hog or patrol used.
