me and @northdude shot some bunny's awhile back had white spots the name of it is coccidiosis as above what I do remember about reading on it is dogs among other things other can get it and it can live for 3 days out of the body so you need to wash everything down with disinfectant it can be eaten if cooked well but I wouldn't suggest it but the eels in the creek got mine
that's of Corse if its the same thing

Seems like it crops up when population is very high and confined to a small area.. Seen spotty bits lots of times in these situations... As for eating... I went and shot some that didn't have spotty bits...
