So shot a few rabbits tonight.
One had yellow fat instead of white, and a pale yellow tinge to all of the meat.
Anyone have any ideas what causes this? Google didn't offer many answers...

If it was a fully grown animal I would suggest it was an old one
Ya can't park there mate.
I've seen that before too, really yellow meat. IIRC someone with more experience than me reckoned that can happen if they have a brush with RCD but survive it. We decided not to eat that one.
Im guessing you didn't squeeze the pee out.
As soon as you can hold front legs squeeze the gut so pee comes out. Other wise yes faint yellow meat. It taints the flavour too.
I seen a pom who eats and hunts them on you tube going on about it. He's right tho.
Different to yellow fat.
In cattle the fat will turn yellow if they are drawing on their fat reserves.
Not sure if it's the same with rabbits
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
As far as I know yellow fat on a rabbit is normal it indicates good condition. Iv never seen white fat.
Its normal, just like some rabbits are black, yellow or piebald. Don't see many but have been getting the odd one since I was in primary school, 54 now so well before RCD. We just call them jersey rabbits because jersey cattle also have yellow fat so don't panick
Eating to much corn and nachos
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
It's harmless. Too much keratin being stored in the fat because that rabbit lacks an enzyme in its system.

Thanks for all of the info.
The fat was a very bright yellow - like a yellow post-it note nearly. The yellow tinge to all of the meat was the thing that really threw me.
I ended up throwing it out - not worth the risk.
If I get another one, I'll take some photos.
I've had a few like that, tasted the same to me then again I mostly eat it in instant risotto format so maybe i wouldn't notice
Its harmless, we see plenty of them, but if it worries you theres no shortage of rabbits.. The yellow tinge will be the fat in the meat, not much on a rabbit but there is always a small amount of fat in every muscle.
Plenty of info around this is available..just google yellow fat in rabbits.
