Deer Mass Poisoned - Lake Taupo Farmer Speaks Out

On the 3rd Of July 1080 poison bait was spread across 50,000 hectares of the Hauhungaroa Ranges, which are situated on Western Bays of Lake Taupo.

Beef and sheep farmer Lance Aldrige was informed by a farm hand that he had found four poisoned deer laying on the farm four days after the aerial operation was completed. A field trip was arranged so that Waikato Regional Councillors could be shown the impacts of the resource consents their Council issues.

Many more poisoned deer were found as the group made their way around the farm and bush edges. Lance Aldridge has had to endure the impacts of aerial poison drops for over 30 years " This is the sort of thing a lot of people don't see. They do the drops, and they walk away. They never see the aftermath like we see." He goes on to explain on camera how the operations are difficult to live and work around.

Over 100,000 kilos of poison bait was spread across the forests in this single operation.. The "Toxin Flight Lines" charts, released by Waikato Regional Council, show that the poisonous baits were dropped directly into almost all streams within the forested areas. The streams all flow into Lake Taupo.

needs to be screeened on mainstream tv during primetime tho so al the couch potatoes can have their blinders removed to see the collateral damage and the less than effective result of the aerial campaign . its the only way the anti 1080 movement will get traction as tv is as close as the majority of NZers get to seeing it with their own eyes. and thats how DOC nd the govt like it .

Surely the Dept is in breach of H&S and Animal Welfare Acts.

It is mind boggling with today's H&S laws that a deadly poison can be spread willy nilly with no regard to were it ends up. Don't know how DOC have the audacity to place the restrictions to were a animal can be gutted in regards to waterways and tracks on hunting permits when they leave their poison carcases where they die.

I am slightly skeptical of the opinions expressed as facts that appear in press releases from parties on either side of the debate over use of this stuff.

    1080 in Kawekas
Dead rotting deer on the ground
We just had huge rain storm
Rotten deer in creeks then ngaruroro river
River flows 10 km and feeds aquifer at Whanawhana where the rotton deer beach themselves on the shingle where it shallows.

    Simple arithmetic

DOC would have to be really silly to spread poison in a water catchment thats only 45km from a major wine industry, horticultural industry, farming, fresh water export companies, and human population that all draw their water from an aquifer thats fed by said catchment.

Don't worry, in wouldn't be the result of a 1080 drop, probably toxic sea slugs, the same ones that killed the fish and dogs on the Firth of Thames after the Hauraki Gulf Islands and Coromandel drops.

Oh. Never fear good citizens. Your infinitely trustworthy government is going to have a special enquiry into the poisoned guts of the people of Hawkes Bay. It might even be as believable as the 245T enquiry in New Plymouth-- if your VERY lucky. And YES; you shoukd believe implicitly anything Maggie Barry says; shouldnt you?

Of course we should - she's Maggie Barry, after all. And DOC had that sweet, gullible young lady in Ranger's uniform telling us how good and necessary 1080 is, poor fool. I'd love to see some of those DOC dicks, and their political masters drinking out of some of those creeks just downstream of a dead something and tell us the next day how good the shit is. Lying maggot turds. Just my thoughts.
