Who in their right mind would take a 243 out in the roar? That is unless they only wanted spikers......
did they find it- needed a good dog and I agree .243 nah

That makes what is the Forum's largest thread of 223 on deer redundant. LOL. Rubbish projectiles are like putting lipstick on a pig.

He simply just used the wrong calibre, should have used a 223

yes I have shot a lot of deer with a .222 and there's a lot of deer shot with .223 and some with .243 but would you really recommend them as deer calibers' for a red roar trip be honest no likely not

I haven’t yet found any armour plating in any stags that I’ve shot either in or out of the roar…

yes we are heroes and use them -well me .222 but I would never recommend any of those 3 to a new hunter I would sooner they carried a bit more horse power - experienced hunters well go hard -

Interesting aye. Once upon a time perhaps but with modern powders and projectiles things change. Projectile choice is everything.
My .243 with 105gr targex has more energy out further than my .308 firing low BC soft points.
Shot over 200 deer with the .243 in the last couple of years with the .243 and my poor .308 has nearly been made redundant. Shot a fair few over 500 yards with it comfortably as well. Plenty of bang flops.

its one no one is going to win and its a fun argument yes projectile choice may have changed my early opinions of .243 and good projectiles make the .223 a good killer in good hands

A couple of years using my 22.250 and 70 grain Speers made me realise that any problems inside 300m were 100% my fault.

Those 70 grain Speers are amazing.
The bc of a coffee cup, but I killed the biggest red of my life with them, and can't recommend them enough.
As a bonus, they shot to the same place @100m as 50 grain bt, and 55 vmax.

They stabilize in the standard Remington 1:14 twist as well.
