1st Blood trails for the Kimber 708

Had an itch to scratch with newly set up Kimber so I set out nice and early on a frosty Queenstown morning.
Climbing was slow going as the hill was more suitable for ice skating, the schist was deadly slick!

After a sweaty climb and nearing the top before dropping into the next basin a family group of chamois scampered out of the bluffs, a good sign!

Glassing around I picked up on a reasonable buck at 244 yards. He was on the move. Quickly throwing the shooter on the pack and trying to ignore the dog songs of delight that she has started becoming increasingly bad at as soon as I chamber a round, I cranked the scope to 7x and put the red dot of the vx3 on the very lower section of the leg to allow for my 300 yard zero at that range.
Bomf, the surprising light kimber trigger clicked and down slid the chamois. What a great start for the light weight boom stick.

Later the buck measured bang on 9 inches.

The walk back down the hill was a little less slick as the ground started to thaw. The ease of walking was aided with the rifle being strapped to the pack, I hardly noticed I had it on there.

Given the accuracy, carry weight and an easy 500 yard capability I reckon this little rifle will go on plenty of missions in the future.

    Happy as!
