    2016 starts with a BANG!

New years eve started out with a call to the cocky,we planned to head out for a bit of a spot light to welcome in the new year. After a bit of a yarn to the farmer, he told us something was eating his rape paddock. Not thinking too much about it we headed out. Shot a few on the way up to the paddock where the rape was, then like a midnight party there were eyes for Africa. We shot about 50 off the fence and headed into the paddock, We almost walked over them getting about 140 for the night. Wasn't too bad. Name: IMG_1426.jpg

Then came last night, first off a dive before night was on the cards for paua, as i don't eat them off to mates it goes. The water was dead flat and there were paua for miles and a quick dive I was at my limit with time to spare for a cup of tea! as night fell we then headed back out with the mind set of not thinking we would see too many, we had about 10 on the ground in about 15mins then walking in the paddock saw us getting a total of 125 for the night, now i'm sure I've put a dent in them. Now with over 6kg of hand plucked fur, where could i take this? Name: IMG_1431.jpg

6kg of fur is a good bit of pocket money. Where are you in NZ?

FAAAA that would have been much more enjoyable than my new years! Talk to your local hunting/shooting shop as they usually know where to sell the fur some are even buyers. 6KG will definitely pay for your fuel, ammo and a few beers!
Paua, yum! Ever tried paua ceviche (made with lime juice)??

Ahhh then you haven't tried my Ceviche Fritters are nice anyway.

Well 6Kg should net you more than $600 so either you only drink expensive beer or you are paying far too much for your 555 pack.

Well done that was quite a memorable new year.

Hand plucked? With a trailer load I'd image they would be cold. And hand plucking cold possums must be awfully hard....
But yes, looks like a great night.

@bully i do know what you mean there was about 30 odd that we left for a little to long that didnt get plucked as i didnt know that leaving them for even 30mins made it imposable to do. but on the 2nd nihgt we plucked as we shot them. was the fist time ive ever shot that many in a night .

I just figured by the time you filled the trailer and started plucking they would mostly be too cold. I pluck as I go.
Or others just fill the ute or in your case trailer and pluck the next day by machine plucking.
Which would be good, as iv never received any more money from hand plucked fur.

I don,t know what its real name is but in NZ its grown as a crop.
Here in Africa we grow to eat .
The leaves are like a spinach .
Depends who cooks it on how it tastes .
