    1. Ensure a constant supply of venison and other wild game
    2. Shoot a deer with my the ol' Lee-Enfield
    3. Visit a special spot I've been thinking about for the last three years or so
    4. Get the band back together as we haven't done a decent trip for 7 or 8 years.

My goal had been to help my daughter get her first deer, but we managed to do that 2 days ago, so I'll have to think up a new one now.

2019, get the work/hunting balance leaning more towards hunting instead of work. Get a hunt In down south ways for tahr. Get my boy lined up with a decent stag next roar.

Can shoot the deer but buggered if I can catch the Snapper. Might have to try catching the Snapper first before I run out of deer to shoot
Deer sorted this morning. Now to go catch a Snapper

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

    Sika stag.

I am a noisy, smelly, panting, cursing, tangled up clodhopper in the bush. Deer here me coming from the adjacent island.

Oh, here comes Dave, they say, everyone, hang tight, carry on browsing, you’ve got 6 hours until he gets within a coo-ee of shot, he can’t see you, he can’t hear you, so spook at the last possible moment and frighten the bejeezus out of him, then bask gloriously in his bitter disappointment.

Better still, stroll out of the bush onto the track right in front of him, watch him fumble hilariously with his rifle which will get caught up on his backpack, then he’ll drop it, and just as he starts to line you up.... RUN LIKE THE WIND!

So, lot to improve on in 2019. A really decent Sika 8 pointer would be very very nice thank you.

I have a busy March/April as I want to shoot the service rifle Nationals at Easter, so the roar may come second. To make up for it, I want to shoot a deer at some stage this year with my M38 Swede, old school iron sights style.

Some would consider that double dipping ! , but im with you yet to have a red up on my wall , my MISSION 2019 SHOULD I EXCPT IT ....which I have ..I mean I DO , is upping the tempo determined to get that red stag 12pt + that's first on the agenda , got a Stewart island trip after the roar happy being there a deer is a bonus , so the hard yards is swinging it with the misses to head up north to chase a sika stag after SI , around 25 years ago was the last time I had one of those sneaky buggers in my sights ... 2019 HOOAH

First thing is to get over this bloody back injury that has sidelined from hunting for the last 4 months hopefully in time for the roar.
Second if I get through said injury want to spend as much time out in the roar as possible and try and get at least a 10 pointer.
Also want to spend more time hunting and exploring new areas not just going to the same old spots.
A nice chamois is also on the list

I’m with you @bigred. I’m dealing with this dammed post-operation recovery and finding the mental aspects of seriously reduced capabilities very trying indeed... it also explains why I spend so much time waffling on here at the moment. I ended up back in hospital for two days over new year because I tore something important that was holding me together, by trying to do too much too soon...

The Roar is also my focus, I am determined to park the rest of life for a two week minimum period in April and just disappear into the bush and get myself back together, physically and mentally. Boredom is a killer. There’s only so much sub sonic shooting you can do in your back garden before you are simply wasting components!
