Not sure what you are referring to by "they" but yes, 22.250 are almost exclusively 1:14 twist which limits them to lighter bullets like the 55grn and some 60grn. Whereas it is usual for the .223 to have a faster twist (1:12 through to 1:8) which can stabilise heavier bullets - with the 1:8 through to 80 grn).

I started reading where you had the photo of the stag shot with the 60 grn Hammer, which is the projectile I was referring to.
Read a bit further back, and now see I was less than clear…

I just checked and you’re right. Seems the Tikka is 1:14, so presumably too slow.
Will get a sample pack and try anyway unless anyone has tried already without success, or can definitively say they won’t shoot?

Have a look at the 52 grn Hammers. They are good and might stabilise although 1/10 is recommended. The 44 grn is recommended for 1/14. You will be shocked when you see the price.

Makes the 77gn TMKs look cheap:)

You dont have to be on the West Coast to "spin" a yarn. That gear was de rigeur in times of yore. Spending time at the Mangaweka pub in undies , Jackie Howe and Bullers after walking across the Ruahines and not seeing anyone for 2 weeks.

As a young fella in the late sixties I once followed govt gun up a steep ridge in his bullers without any socks, and his wedding tackle swinging freely out the leg of his shorts. Never been more happy to get to the tops
