What’s your MV of that load? The target chrono surely cant be right- I’m seeing 1850 fps at almost 500yds.Quote:

Using 2208 same cases and projectiles. Using slightly less powder than Varget. Getting pressure signs with 2208 before getting to Varget load levels. 16” Howa. Seems to start showing pressure signs well before 25 gr. like tight bolt lift and pierced primers.Quote:

Even at just 90 yards away the dog is invaluable for finding the shot ones in the dark. It can be quite diss-orienting looking through thermals and night vision.
I missed one the other evening, like I do, and she back tracked it right to the bullet hole in the ground. She actually went up and sniffed the actual hole.
The mushroom myth. Found under the off side skin from a lung shot. 80 grn Targex. 90 yards. These mythical mushrooms are meant to be the holy grail. Nah. My experience is that bullets perform best when they penetrate enough to be dangerous and fragment. Always get quicker kills and more trauma when that happens - I find bits of jacket and sometimes the lead splattered about. Lethal.
This one didn’t go down at first and then I blew one up though its shoulder. That fixed it. This mushroom was an exception with Targex-I usually do get a more explosive effect.
