When the 80 grn Targex hits a bony bit (entry). Still enough penetration to kill it on the spot though. About 100 yards.

@Thar what speed did you have the 69gr targex going? Did you find it made any difference on animals?
Hind from last night 69gn smk. See hunting reports for the autopsy

One with the Ruger No1.
55g soft point behind the ear.
Good shooting HC.
Another one for the Tikka with the 77gr Sierra. Dog indicated it was over a small rise, popped over and it was standing 40 meters away in some native .https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3945b1a264.jpg

Anyone using the Hornady 75gn HPBT on deer?
As do the 77 grn TMK's.
From my perspective you could throw a blanket over the 80 ELDM, 77 TMK and the 80 Targex. All perform outstandingly. Comes down to what shoots in your gun and supply.
80 ELDM seem to have the most consistent supply.
Cant get 80grn Targex or 77 TMK at the moment.
I have enough 80 Targex for a wee while and 150 77grn.
Bryn (Targex) has generously made me some trial 74 grain using the 69 grn jacket so it will be interesting to see how they go. BC of .380 (to be confirmed).
Bryn (Targex) made me some 74 grain - using 69 grn jackets I think - 'cos he cant get 80 grn jackets at present.
I figured a load based on my 69grn's and shot this group straight off. 5 shots, first cold barrel shot out of the group. That will do. They will be close to 3K fps out of the Tikka.

73g eldm work well. Cold shot just off center and then 5 in the middle. Only taken 2 deer and sbout a dozen goats so far with these bullets and they work.

Nice,blacky looks happy.
That’s a good effort. Lethal combo (including you).
Best thread on the forum. Henceforth all "what calibre/what bullet in a large calibre" threads will be immediately closed and a link provided to this one.
@Nathan F good work! It's probably buried deep in this thread somewhere, but what is the length on your barrel and what speed are you getting with those 69gr bullets?
Interested, as I just dropped my Howa Mini in the be chopped right back.
Wicked, that good velocity.
I'm working up a similar load, so will interesting to play with once my rifle is back.
After a five year absence I have just rejoined the 223 club. Some hasty load development was done (with powder I had and projectiles I could find) and I took it out this morning for its hunt.

Perfect carry size. Nice looking Browning.
77grn Sierra Tipped. Low shoulder shot at 188 yds. Just took a few steps. 9pm so very gloomy.
