dog looks to be asking when you will get out the knife and get her some yummy bits LOL.
When I got back to the farm I'm looking after in the Wairarapa at 1am this morning with the 2 deer it was still 23c so I broke them down to go in the fridge. Too hot to leave them hanging for the night. So that extended my bed time to 2.15am but at least the meat was chilling. The meat was good this morning. It was 27c by 9am this morning - thats when I woke up.
There's plenty of deer on the farm I'm baby sitting but I get bored with it so drove 2 hours for some variety.
Bit of a disclaimer it will make you want the rocking horse shit pills to use also very good info around wound channels from a range of bullets
its a little hard to get into as the guy explains his background for 30 odd minutes

They are very hard to get and expensive when you can. Ive got enough but ration them to myself and use them on nothing but deer. Maybe @Kiwi Greg might be able to source some?
Midway and Creedmoor have them but will only ship to US address.
In any event there are plenty of other projectiles that all perform within a whisker; the heavy ELDM's and Targex. And the 52-60 grn Hammers (but spendy).
The best utility bullet I think is still the 80grn Targex. Excellent on deer and not too spendy for wallaby and things. Easy to get to shoot.
Could be...yep I think you are right, don't spend much time on the US forums..... https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/...-moose.130488/
I thought about bringing some home with me from the US (currently over there) but it turns out I would need an export permit, and it got waaay too admin intensive for a few packets of projectiles.
I’m just going to stick with the ELD-Ms from here on, as I’ve optimised my setup for them. They kill just fine too.
There's some 77's on trademe currently
Man I love this thread.
Evidence based, an increasingly broad base of contributors, lots of different rifles, projectiles, different deer species.
Photos, videos, detailed descriptions.
And yet if you were to believe the typical American YooToober, we are damned to hell and beyond as unethical, irresponsible, uncaring, the very scum of the earth. And we use match bullets! Zero chance of redemption!
I’ve tried to discuss this with a couple of American YooToobers, but they just delete my comments. this is why everyone appears to be agreeing with them!
I'd be interested to try the 77 TMKs but the 80 ELDMs just work so well and are substantially cheaper (and available) (and I have a large stock) (and I can't be bothered doing load development) (and I still have 80gr Targex to test)
I see there's a new Hornady 80gr ELDX, that could be interesting if people are worried about the "splashiness" of the match bullets. Might try some when they arrive. There's also the 70 Accubond, 75 Scirocco, etc.
From personal experience and that of others that have used both, the ELD-M is better than the TMK for close range hits- it’s slightly less ‘splashy’ . The TMK has a slightly thicker jacket, but a bigger hollow point behind the tip hence it is more reliable at low velocity. There’s sweet f-all in it though.
69gn tmk broadside 100 yds right on dark didn’t stand a chance

Nice eatter there Nathan,good shooting.
Fat as butter yum
Greetings,
The number of deer being smoked by you chaps with the .223 leaves me wondering if there are any left for the other calibres. Perhaps we should be recommending the .223 as a starter rifle with .308 as a back up choice. Both would be ideal of course.
GPM.
I saw two very fat Sika velvetys on ihaka spur as the sun rose this morning, that fat one slip and I think they would roll all the way to Kaweka Flats bivvy :)
It’s a fantastic feed year for Sika
