    Had a look at it yesterday, very nice rifle in excellent condition, with open sights still fitted.

    You would really enjoy that.

    Didn’t actually look at the price oddly. Give them a bell, or I can have another look next week.

    How would a 20 inch barrel go in a 257R AI?
    I'm trying to get to heaven before they shut the door.

    @nor-west

    @Puffin quoted some 19" figures from a 257R AI (above).

    Back to the 257R
    Im really enjoying it. Step up from the usual .223 but not so much as my 300saum or 270wsm.

    The 115 Nosler BT absolutely slays deer (2930fps). This one was about 120 yards (didn't range it). There's a finger of manuka that comes up out of a 800 acre block and there is always deer in it. Only tiny clear spots and they seem to know they cant be seen. But this time I had a lend of a little Sytong thermal spotter and just sat looking until I picked one up. 2 actually. Then it took me about 5 minutes to find them in the binos, and then a few minutes to get them in the scope. I shot the one that was most in the clear. It was on a clearing but because of the steepness it was obscured by the scrub. Once in my scope at 16 power and a good rest it was pretty easy. I scanned with the thermal after I had gone and got the thing (nowadays "the retrieve") and there was a little bunch of about 4 still standing motionless about 300 yards from where I had done the gutting. Cheeky blighters.

    The little Kimber is light and easy to manage. Not much not to like really.

    Gotta admit a Fallow doe isn't much of a test but Ive knocked over some big Reds with it. It's a nice little step up from the .243 I used for years (probably repeating myself now). Its a shame that the caliber has gone into demise.

    Those Nosler Ballistic Tips are the best kept secret in hunting circles and are proving to be the perfect cup & core projectile in any caliber.
