Thread: 338 Federal

Anyone running this as a bush pig? I'm looking at a big brother for my 223 to shoot out to 300m and this seems ideal. Or just go with a 308 which is much cheaper to buy and run.

Great choice. But then so is the 308. It depends on how much you like to play with your stuff.

Shearer is right, either will be fine depending on what you want to do. The 308 will be a lot cheaper to feed if money is an issue.
My 338 Fed was built on a tikka action with a fast twist barrel as i wanted to play with subsonic loads also. Shooting the 300gr SMK or a Lehigh it was quiet and fun. Now i only shoot supersonic loads, 160gr TTSX or my favourite 180gr Accubond.
If you go with the Fed i can help you out with loads if need be.

the .308 is an easy and effective 300yrd cartridge in a short barrel . . .. boring maybe compared to something more exotic but that doesn't change the facts, it works .. . R

Mine is awesome!!! 200gn BT at 2500fps from a 14.5" barrel.....cant get those stats from a .308. Kills like nothing else in my safe including the magnums.
