Hi guys,
Just curious to know if anyone here shoots a 416 Rigby? What powder and projectiles do you use?
Thanks
Alvar

That I can imagine! What make and grain bullets do you shoot?
My old 404 used to get a few, usually because they didn’t pull it in to their shoulder or their hand would slip forward off the grip and get bitten by the trigger gaurd
Yep 400gr at 2300fps will recoil. I've got to watch my hand placement or else I get a thumb in the lip! Glad there is no scope on it or I would have got myself a few times.
After watching the 416 Rigby bite I was real careful shooting the 450 Rigby, I could barely see through the scope I had my head so far back.
😂 have you done much hunting with her?
I cant comment so much. I have a 416 rem mag and only ever put one 400gr (came with the gun) down range.
My mate fired the other one and its the only gun he can remember that gave him a bruise (very slight I may add) on one shot.
350gr barnes X point coppers on two cattle beasts and a stag. Only fire forming loads from 375 hh brass so wouldn't be much past 2000 if at all. Under one inch group at a hundy though for 3 shots. So all up could recommend them
Loaded up some 340gr woodleighs and got them out past 2500fps across mates chrony. They are definitely snappier than the barnes but never sighted the gun in for them and never shot anything with them.
Hi Avar I am probably not much help because I don't have a Rigby. I have a 416 Chey Tac that I built myself and when I started i was using 140 grains of 2218 behind a 375 vld custom for 2700 fps. I now use a Barns 300 grain tsx but I have not put it over the chrony yet. I feel that it may handle a faster powder but I will have to find the time to develop the load. Have taken it on one hunt but didn't have time to get into action but hope to get it into the hills this summer.

Great, thank you very much. I have not done any hunting in New Zealand at this stage. I have a CZ 416 Rigby, 22" barrel and fitted with a Lynx 1.5-5x32 scope. Normally I shoot the 400gr Hornady Interlock, which is good for about 2300fps. I have comfortably strecthed its legs to about 150m. Will it be good for any hunting in New Zealand? To supplement the 416 I also have a 7x64 Brenneke and a 8x57 JS Mauser. I get the feeling the 416 will not get out much.
Regards
Alvar
Nothing stopping you using the 416 if you want. The 7x64 is probably the most popular of the three calibres you have, although a few people are using the 8x57.
If you are really keen we have a Big Bore Shoot once a year down in Kurow.
Here is the one we did this year
