To supplement the 416 I also have a 7x64 Brenneke and a 8x57 JS Mauser. I get the feeling the 416 will not get out much.

Id say the 400 grainers even the soft points a bit much on anything other than larger feral cattle beasts. Not much to start the bullets mushrooming.
From your comments it looks like you can reload? If so I'd go for the lighter projectiles.
In saying that the other two you have would be ideal for all of our big game as long as you don't want to do really long range on the alpine stuff.

I couldn't find it on the website so had to look them up.
A nice looking bit of kit I must say.

    Hi csmiffy,

Yes, I do reload. Thank you for the recommendation. I will look into using lighter projectiles. At least I will be able to get some more velocity out of them.

    Thanks

@Alvar The barnes coppers go down to 300gr.
See below the Double tap ammo that advertises the rem mag ammo at 3000fps. Honking for a big bullet. They don't seem to do it for the Rigby, but I'm sure it would be awfully close if you reloaded for it yeah?

Yes, that is very impressive for such a big bullet. I had the original 25" barrel shortened to 22", so I might loose some velocity there. But I am sure I will get it up to about 2700fps, which is pretty decent.
