    4wd access

    Hi Lads,

I have an old suzuki vitara, am new to 4wd, but its a great little fun car. Most fun I have ever had in a car with my pants on.

Would like to know of spots where its legal to take a 4wd and is accessable. Im thinking Te ureweras or Kiamanawas, Waioweka Gouge. As Im currenyly residing in Rotorua.

I dont want spot x just whcih tracks are excessable by 4wd. Pm me if you prefer. Many thanks.

Minginui ways.. Grab a mate and a shovel, Head up south road.. Heaps of old logging roads, plus a few deer around.. If you get a kroa permit, it opens up even more options..

Just make sure you have some recovery gear or another vehicle... It's very easy to end up with a long walk back to civilisation

Winch only gets you into more trouble... decent chunk of timber as a base for the hi lift. Can't have enough shackles (rated ones) snatch strap comes I handy, couple of truck tie Downs can add a bit of length but only loaded for 2.5ton usually

Hi lift jack if of no use unless you are buying a chainkit to use it as a winch or if you have good solid barwork to jack your truck up from. Not meaning to be negative, but just look at how or where you can use it on your vehicle? I can guarantee there are more useful items at the beginning than a hi lift.

The priority if you haven't already NEEDS to be tow hooks, rated ones front and rear, not the puny factory ones under the bumper, they break, and please never tow or snatch with a strap on the towball, ever.

Grubber, spade, crowbar, pruning saw, axe, Good torches. A chain or two with snig hooks, not for towing or winching, but good for dragging logs, tie backs for winching setups. etc.Tirfor.
For your winch, ground anchor, tree trunk protector, winch extensions straps, RATED shackles 3.25T or higher
Start with basics, lern to drive, learn how to get unstuck and as your confidence and experience grows you will learn what you will need in the way of 4wd recovery gear. It all depends on how hard you go, what terrain you drive, who you have with you in the way of other 4wds etc.
