    4X4 access hunting camps

Hi team, South Island seems to be spoiled with endless river beds you can 4x4 up and set up a base camp to hunt from. Just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations of drive in camps in the north, with decent hunting? I'm not keen on thrashing the %$#@ out of my ute, so nothing too crazy. Not afraid of grunting it out on foot and with a pack either but always good to mix it up a bit. Especially now my boy is old enough to get into some cool shit.

Either end of the 42 Traverse, down in National Park gives access to some decent areas. But it does also attract the hoon element on long weekends and holidays.

Another option is the Pureoras, both north and south blocks. And the Piropiro campsite over on the western side.

Just remember the North Island sports 400% more people with only 20% of the cool places the South Island is graced with, so expect almost anywhere you go in the NI to be more crowded than down south.

I was in at Piropiro flats on the last weekend (not hunting) and there must have been 15 sets of campers, most with quad or 2 wheeler bikes - all on a wet weekend

I did smell a couple of deer and saw a pig on the timber trail (as well as other sign) so there is wildlife in there (until the 1080 starts in a week or two)
