    55gr vs 62grn 223?

    Hey team,

What's people's thoughts on the 62grn rounds as apposed the 55's? My rifle has a 1:8twist and is currently sighted in for the 55s, just ammo selection at the shops are out of the 55s that I use and have plenty of the 62gr stuff, normally shoot 150m max with the 223 as I know it's a "varmint"round but I've had plentiful success hunting with it and to date haven't had a single animal not recorved,

Used over 1000 rnds Barnaul 62 gr culling goats mostly but a few deer and pigs too. Work perfectly fine @ 100 +metres but get odd one penciling thru at close range. Still get the animal though.

Sould be fine in a 1:8...I know my 223 that I used to own had a 1:10 or 1:12 and if I went over 55gr, accuracy was piss poor, but with the 1:8 you should have enough spin to be pretty accurate.

I’ve used 1000s of rounds of Belmont 55 and 62s mainly on goats and deer and a few pigs
I prefer the 62s but the goats never seem to notice the difference,

I've answered my own question by ringing them. Out of stock but should have it ready by Christmas, awaiting a shipment of powder.

Has anyone measured how much POI difference there is between 55 and 62gn Belmont? I have only had a chance to use the 55gn, which is god stuff.

I prefer the 62gr projectiles on goats, have a little more punch. But as some have said with good shot placement the goats do not care what you use.

Same practical poi as far as I can figure out. When I ran out and borrowed some 55s midway through a goat job. We were shooting from right in front to just under 300 yds. Yes there were misses but it wasn't target shooting.
One thing Belmont seem to change projectile depending on availability I guess. It is recorded on the lid of the can, I gave had 2 tins of Hornady so and the current one is speer so I believe these are their gold dot projectiles. They are definitely a different shape but shoot to the same practical poi.

Mostly use Belmont ammo which I purchase, 55gr, some 62 gr. Otherwise use supplied ammo, usually Barnaul 55-62 gr. Luck of the draw. All usually shoots to roughly same poi out to 200m. Bit more selective with ammo out towards 400m, still Belmont but batched according to head stamp.
