    6.5 creedmoor reviews??????

very novice hunter and not looking to start any arguments but anyways i have been going through forums, reviews, yarns with people and it feels like everything else. im looking for a new rifle, first time buying for myself ,everything else has been a hand me down. ive settled on the fact i want either a 243 or a 6.5 creedmoor. at the end of the day i will be swayed by what's actually in the store at the time of me wanting to spend money haha.
i guess my question is has anyone shortened the barrel on a 6.5 creedmoor? what ive got in mind is one of the howa rifles, i wouldnt be looking at a package it would be a bare rifle with a scope id choose and definitely a suppressor. i dont ever plan on trying to shoot something out beyond 400m with it.

Get what ever you can get a good supply of good supply of ammo with.
I use the factory hornady 143 eldx in my 6.5cm and it slays.

The creed is a great caliber mine is 19" and shoots a 143 eldx at 2770fps.
I think 18 to 20" is a perfect length for most calibers with similar case length.
There is a very nice Howa Alpine 6.5 on TM at the moment.

You wont go wrong with either calibre, I have a 6.5 creed and really like it. Seems to be inherently quite accurate, as in easy enough to find factory ammo that shoots great. Does the job well without excess meat destruction and not too brutal on the shoulder. Ammo is always easy to find. Id happily run a .243 as well though

Local dude has both 6.5CM and 6.5PRC. He says his CM is his main walkabout rifle. I know. He sends lotsa fotos of dead deer and pigs. Uses the PRC for long range stuff.

If you currently sport a manbun go with the costsmore. You said only below 400 so .243 all day long would get my vote between the two choices.

Either way, I'm very bias towards the 243, lower recoil, and wider ammo selection. But the 6.5 CM might future proof you for longer range shooting or hunting. I like Howa rifles a lot, and you won't go wrong there.

Hand loads?precision hunter ammo at the moment is terrible, i put some factory precision hunter 143s thru 24"prc yesterday and speeds ranged from 2690-2910.its garbage.

A lot of people buying their first rifle said they’d never want to shoot over 400 yards… :-). Once you work out how capable modern rifles are you might change your mind.

With that in mind I’d go for the 6.5. I’ve got one and mates have and they’re very capable out to 550-600 in the right hands

I’m a very novice hunter myself and just bought my first rifle in the last 6 weeks - a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Having lost my job in the last month I’ve had plenty of time to use it too! I haven’t got lots to compare it to, but I’m really enjoying it. Everything I’ve pointed it at is dead so that’s something (all shots have been made at around 50m-250m). Currently just using up the American whitetail 129gr factory ammo it came with but once I’ve used it up I’ve got a mate who reloads those 143gr ELD-X’s.

Newish hunter. Got a 6.5 as it seemed to be a pretty versatile do all cartridge.
Kept my Sauer's barrel at 22". It doesn't seem to get in the way when bush hunting, and it will keep its legs if I ever decide to shoot over 250m with it. The way I figure, once you've shortened it you and any future owner can't make it any longer again.
The American Whitetail 129gr have been fine for red deer, goats and fallow, saving my heavier bullets for a red stag. The best part is, the AW is $3.50 a round vs $5+ for more premium ammo, is accurate enough and so I've got more practice with it.

The CM is light enough for the wife too.
Unfortunately I don't have enough hair to pull off a bun tho.

@steeve That Howa on trade me is NOT a good deal.....It would be if it included the Leupold but it does not. Whther it is worth that because it is the Alpine model or not I cannot say, but a Brand new Howa 6.5CM with suppressor and same scope is $1654 at Gunworks. And that would have a warranty.....I suspect your local Gunshop will be similarly priced.

Check the auction details...."Note; sale does not include the Leupold scope and rings that are on the rifle.
Other scope will be bore sighted when fitted.
