70 year old pig hunting film made by my grandfather.

My grandfather was a very keen hunter.

He was Managing Secretary (old term for CEO) of the NZ Jersey Breeders Association. And as part of the job he traveled a lot. During his travels he purchased an old 16mm movie camera, which you turn by hand. He made many, many... films that he shared at the Palmerston North theater...but for me the hunting films were always the highlight.

He's long dead now, but thanks to the New Zealand film archives, some of his work has been saved before the cellulose deteriorates for ever. This film was my favorite:

Hunting is relaxing just like Yoga except I get to kill something.

Yeah, I love the old film. The thing to keep in mind is that films of that period where pretty slap stick, think Laurel & Hardy.

But things pig hunting wise stayed the same for the next 60 years, until Garmin introduced the Astro gps trackers...that was a game changer! But the fundamentals stay the same.

Very good footage considering the age of the film. Interesting techniques for dog training. Thanks for sharing.

That was great viewing. Similar to @Norway and @gimp in the commentary.

Yes, my father remembers his father's hunting buddies and reckons they were all hard cases. Tough as nails, but all enjoyed a good laugh.
