    7mm08

Hey guys i own a Remington 700 in 7mm08 and i intend to use it for red deer, i use Norma 140gr ballistic tips for open country and 140 gr Remington core lokt for bush and just wondering what people think is the realistic maximum range for it on Red deer, and any other recommended factory ammo?? Any other general comments on the caliber are welcomed also,
    Cheers Josh

The range that you can shoot a 6 inch 3 shot group, which isn't what range you can shoot a 1inch group multiplied by 6. You will probably be looking at 400 -500 yds.

Take you rifle to the local Deerstalkers range.

Do 50 burpees right before shooting, this should simulate climbing up a hill while hunting

Now get your adrenaline flowing, maybe ask a mate at the range to slap you...

Fire 3 shots offhand at various distances, remember to do this under time pressure. Maybe get the same mate to stand behind you and tell him to slap you again if you're not doing it fast enough.

The max distance where you can consistently hit a Hillar zone sized target for your intended prey should be the figure you want

Groin kicks, arm twists and half nelsons can be arranged for a small fee if you're zealous about replicating the heavy wet bush, crossing fallen logs routine.....

SiB, you forgot bush lawyer and supple jack.

We can maybe ask @kotuku for a straight jacket to simulate those

Stop intending and go and try it out.distance is relevant to how far you want to go to retreive your shot animal if you think you will blow ass trying to get it then its to long a shot.if it is to long a shot but you feel fit walk your round in closer or buy some 10" gongs and practice.good luck fulla

If you going to try it out, shoot rocks pls

Wounding an animal is a crap way to learn...

Kaitoke Deerstalkers has a 200m range, once you can hit something consistently out to 200, then start worrying about further distances. Unlikely to ever shoot a deer that far in the NZ bush in any case, unless you go down south or hunt the tops.

Unless you're shooting from ridge to ridge or from a knob to a clearing in which case the distance can go from 150 to 500 plus in the bush I hunt so its very relevant to shoot past 200 if you intend to hunt on any NZ bush just incase there is that opportunity and you feel fit

Keep your remington brass, it's a good choice for reloading the 7mm-08

i would find the most accurate factory load and use that. Distance is determined by your ability, whatever happens make sure its paper or steel you try it on first

i should also add that 500 meters is probably max range in terms of bullet energy/terminal performance
