Marvellous place. Walked thru via Mokai Base in 1975 and from the shearing sheds to Ohutu Hut in 1976. Fantastic view late evening looking north. Is Bruce Corpe still the owner?
Bruce Corpe's son Joe and his wife Jessamine were running Mokai till Joe died some years ago. I think its been leased out but Jessamine is still the owner.
As for that paper road i didn't think it actually went anywhere to be of any use for access into the forest park, happy to be proved wrong though!!
Hi all, the legal public access that has been in place since the 80's has been agreed to be operable by the parties involved and so legal public access across Mokai Station to the Ruahine Forest Park via the poled route is available. There are ongoing negotiations between DOC and Jessamine, however the public access is still in place to travel to Otukota Hut or to the park boundary via the poled route and the unformed legal road along the top of Mokai Range. The rules are no dogs, and all firearms must be completely unloaded whilst crossing Mokai Station until you reach the Forest Park.
