I have cactus gaiters. They are bombproof, but would be too noisy for bush stalking.
I've had a great run out of my twinneedle ones. Would recommend them
I have the Swazi Gaiters, I really rate them. Used all over S.I, very light, tough & waterproof. If they fail you can send them back for repair.

I have a pair of the Huntech fleece covered knee length ones I bought in the 1990s, I wear them every trip (except the one time I forgot them!). I always hunt in shorts, occasionally with lonjohns underneath, and wear the gaiters for protection, waterproofing, and covering white legs :D
I have been using a pair of the original NZ made ones for 10 years now, I have liked them, bit heavy when they get wet, but a good all round gater for the type of hunting i do. They are just starting to come apart at the seems and will need to be replaced soon, but im not sure the chinese versions will measure up.
Sea to summit, love them as they stay up!
I recently bought the lighter weight macpac medium but medium means the length so they didn't quite reach up to my knees. So if you go for macpac get the "large".
Stoney Creek for me but the old ones without all the bells and whistles. I find something i like and buy two now because you go to buy another whatever it is and companies change the design to something completely different.
Just like Micro Tough pants and they changed them too, got three pairs of the old ones i like:)
Stay away from anything with neoprene where there is a stress point: I tried the "Bushbuck Kayahan" (sp?) and they were worse than useless - neoprene tears easily when subjected to stress. I also personally detest anything with the wire loop that passes underneath your boot: spend anytime walking in a shale river & its toast or go for a walk where there are tree roots and other shit to snag on - you are gong to have a fall...
Interested to see where this thread goes...
Most Bushbuck stuff just seems to be cheap generic gear imported from China from what I've seen. I don't mind it for casual use or work but its not made for real backcountry antics.
Don't agree with you about the wire under the boot though, I've been using those for years without any issues, they do wear out eventually but last longer than webbing straps etc. It does need to be the right length to be tight under the instep of the boot though, if you had it hanging loose I'm sure it could cause problems. Without them gaiters don't usually stay in place as well or give a good seal onto the boot to keep water out etc.
Part of it probably depends on the boots you're wearing as well - personally: the loop under the boot pisses me off more than helps; maybe I've never got it right. But I've only ever had problems with gaiters riding up when moving through snow or mud pushing them up - a good elastic seal at the bottom resolves this for me.
pretty happy with the cactus ones.once they are worn in they are not so noisy anymore. if you go carefully they are fine for bush stalking i recon.

these are great...I cut the rubber strap n buckles off bottom as dont need them with ashley laceup gummies..... they last way longer than they should and at the price it doesnt hurt when they die. on wet day wear them over boots but UNDER trousers...water goes down trou and out over gaiters and feet stay dry for ages.

I'd get a set of these mate! Why, the reviews say it better than i could. I've got a set and have had most of the label brands NZ companies have to offer and none have been as good as these army ones. Factor in the price and theres no reason to even consider anything else! I guarantee you wont be disappointed.
I push my gear really hard pig hunting in some thick nasty country, along with deer hunting and everything else and they stand up to it all.

I had this crowd https://www.mountainhighclothing.co.nz make some for my boy. They are top notch and if I needed new ones myself I would go right back to them. Super well made and custom fit for only $95.
longrange308 i got the ones without the shin guard , as i dont just do alpine stuff.
The replies suggest there are a heap of good makes available - I think what is important is you try them on - some of have found don't fit around the calf with heavier pants and longjohns while others are too high and bite you in the back of the leg while you are climbing. Different shapes and sizes - try them first!
Rossiwiz those mountainhighclothing silent ones look like the bees knees.
Yup I also have a set of these and they are great value, haven't felt the need to waste valuable ammo money on more expensive ones yet  no doubt there are better ones out there and the padded ones would be great for some applications but can't go past army surplus gortex for value
yeah bushbuck is a no go! Me and a mate both had them blow out in just a couple of uses. Even the new stony creek ones arent that tough. I am going to have a look at wilkins canvas ones for my next set... probably noisy but at least they are made here in CHCH
If you want heavy duty try Hunters Element Venom Gaiters, as the name may suggests they’re built with a reinforced lining to prevent snake bites... they’re tougher than the pinnacles
Buy NZ made . TwinNeedle, Cactus, Swazi. Job done.... the rest are rubbish and will let you down.

I have a set of kuiu ones.
They must not have spear grass in N America as they don't give any protection against that shit. [emoji16]
They have leaked like a sive everytime I have used them except for the last trip out. Crossed a creek several times and had dry feet until a crossing in the dark where I went over the height of them.
Can't say I am a fan of them compared to some cheaper sets I have had that are kiwi made.

if your gaiters fall down and like me you spend time scrub bashing or should that read shin bashing through fern...buy cheap pair of soccer shin pads and stick them inside gaiters or better still tack them on with a few stitches....they stay up on own and dont need to be pulled tight to do so.
My Cactus ones don't fall down. ;)

Made your leg disappear though.
I’ve had a pair of the old huntech ones for years and are probably the best made. The new version are no where as good. They leak a lot now. I use the bushbuck ones in winter. They stay up. Are thick warm, waterproof and snug fitting and quiet. The latest version of them have a top buckle improvement. They look durable. I’ve used them for a week total over the last year in winter. I don’t wear high gaiters in summer, just the Swazi hushputtees.
Have just got some twinneedle ones ordered the large they were to big sent back got the medium, still to high, sent back got 4cm taken off and now they fit perfect, went on a 5 day tahr hunt a week ago and they were great, made to last!
Something to think about with gaiters - if you are on the wrong side of 50/55ish and starting to loose the flexibility you had at 20, or worse bulging slightly in various places, then front fastening gaiters are your friend (and if you are thinking fat old bugger thats ok, but went for a shot with two guys playing senior rugby on Friday night, we climbed 250 metres right out of the truck as fast as any of us could go and man they went red in the face and puffed fit to blow my hat off. Damm near killed me keeping ahead but I was first to the top!).
My rear fastening ones are retired!
