Hi just wondering how everyone goes about airline travel with stag heads etc?
I shot my first 2 stags this week and am flying back home from the South Island tomorrow morning and am wanting to take a head with me that I shot yesterday, with the intention of getting this euro mounted. I have skinned the head today but I haven't been able to boil it yet. Any tips, suggestions or other people's experiences would be appreciated.

Not because I plan to do the same, just the thought of it sitting on the seat beside the OP, and vegans for seats around having seizures at the sight of it.
Lots of pointy bits on those antlers, antlers are weapons are they not? Guess it would go in the hold. No biosecurity between NI and SI though, so not a problem on that account.
just wrap the skull and tape up around the bottom of the antlers nicely , also tape foam or something over each point and then you should be fine. invercargill was happy with no covering the points, but when i changed planes at chch they packed a sad and made me tape up all the points. that was a few years ago.
The next one i couriered, was easier.
A good way to protect people and the antler tips is to cut up a garden hose in three to four inch pieces, place on each tine and tape on. Also wrap head well to stop any leakage. Have you spoke to the airline to make sure they will take it on board?

I took a Roe Deer head onto a plane as carryon baggage.

Was bringing a big head back to the Island, via the ferry. I and was worried about it getting tips broken etc. The captain let me put it on the seats inside as pride of place . Most of the passengers took photos etc. Beers on the way home tasted pretty good that day.

This is International borders so alot different.
i need to bring a few Red heads home an other Tahr, so will arrange some form of permit, go thru the motions an not try smuggle them home :P
Lol. Just imagine the disgust on some of the snobby passengers faces. Worth doing it just for that if you are allowed. Get the high maintenance chick next to you to hold the head while you go to the loo.:thumbsup:
