That was bloody awesome. My mrs watched it with me out of curiosity, and once the bull was shot she made a comment along the lines of “I can see why you do it now, that bull obviously meant a lot to Emil”

To me this just reinforced the importance of a well presented hunting show with the ethics and passion all shown in the exact right way for a non hunter to appreciate it. Well done Greg , fantastic episode.

Fantastic first episode and truly inspiring, even for those of us too far gone to get into that kind of malarkey in Fjordland sadly.... really enjoyed that. If you were to export that episode around the world it would go a long way to educating a lot of people.

Several questions on here so far about the rifle, pretty sure it was a .300 Win Mag. That Terminal Ascent bullet is a 200gr bonded design with the copper shank and the grooves. From what I have read it is similar to the Edge TLR design.

I would be interested to know from @GregD if the bullet exited such a large animal.

    An Inspiring Watch!

    It was a great first 2021 Episode thanks NZ Hunter! Having spent a bit of time on hard-out expeditions to Fiordland as usual the main challenges were;

    1. The Weather (although mostly good this trip)
    2. The steepness and random underfoot of Fiordland terrain - travel is always slow there

I was very impressed with your fitness Mr Greg D! :-)

And; Wild Kai Legends straight after! That's me sorted tonight! I reckon we're pretty lucky to have as many high class hunting shows on our tv. Was thinking about it the other day and I think we have to thank Hunting Aotearoa for being the leader that broke the way for the general acceptance of hunting programmes here.

Gees a .222 Sako vixen has gone straight up the priority list! What a nice rifle!

Bet a tidy one demands a premium these days.

Also I like the reference to trusty222. Although it might have been coincidence. Legend

They are awesome wee rifles, I bought one myself last year mainly for using on Sika & Fallow.
Generally around 2k give or take, there is an A1 .222 Sako Vixen currently in the for sale section - was listed at 2k now dropped to $1850. (Fyi an A1 is the next model newer than the one in the episode which is an L461, both models are Vixens).

Brilliant. Loved it. I really want to know if these episodes are viewable from overseas as there are some mates and rellies that really really need to watch this. I suspect they aren’t? Unless they use a VPN of course.

I would love to shove this episode up the nose of the poms who incessantly tell me that a .222 or .223 is unethical on red deer. Utter bollocks. To be fair there’s been a few on this forum that have said the same thing. Eat my shorts. Impressed with the dogs too. Another fantastic story from Willy and Greg, well done.

great to see the trebley 2 getting a work out along with the gear from the 60's deer culling days that Willy was sporting.
Plenty of animals out and about, and all seemed to be great condition. The long shot in the rain with 4x power scope with the 222 that Willey pulled off was pretty amazing. I thought Gregg was pulling his tit when he told him to neck shoot it ?!
No doubt Gregg's ears are still ringing from the muzzle blast from that braked magnum that went off next to him while filming.
