    Ammo splitting

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.
We got a gun off a good friend. A Rossi 30-30. He said it’s only had 11 rounds through it.
Took it for a shoot tonight using Sellier and bellot ammo that came with it and they all split.
Is it likely just faulty weak ammo?
Anyone else had issues using sellier and bellot ammo?
We will run some different ammo through it tomorrow and see what happens.

Don't know about S+B ammo splitting, but splitting does happen.

It's pretty common for Fiocchi 9mm to split.

Me, I'd stop, and take the ammo back. It should be fit for purpose.

my cz455 with 17hmr barrel splits maybe 1/5 necks... (if i check them) have had a god look at them before using them and havent found anything out of the ordinary. since rimfire isnt reloadable (i know it can be done but why?!) i'm not too worried about it

    Faulty rounds.
Take them back where you bought them from.
I would not shoot them as you may get some gas back in your face.

I've had hard bolt lifts with this ammo but that was 308win. No case splitting though. Never went back to it. Maybe try some other brands.

Looks to be a weak area on the case. Try different brands and see what happens, if it continues more likely to be a problem with the rifle. I had trouble with Winchester 22 Mag ammo splitting years back about 10 -12 out of a box of 50 would split ( only in that batch number, others were fine.)

as above try a different brand or if you know someone else with a 3030 try one of yours in their rifle

3030 headspaces on the rim not the shoulder so its most likely the ammunition. Old brass can become brittle, i would run some Winchester or federal like you intend to do. Those splits are safe to fire the expanded case will stop gas coming back but its disconcerting and annoying if you intend to reload.

thats shit brass or something very wrong...I would be majorly pissed if it happened to me,we buy factory ammo to GET the brass to reload... do you get ANY funny marks on a round if you chamber it and then remove it out of chamber unfired??? eg is there a burr or something funky going on with chamber...really shit from a new rifle and factory round.

I had that exactly same crack form on my 308. Got the headspace checked it was fine.
Turned out it was old brass from the factory ammo.
