Any Kaipara Falllow hunters on here?

South Head was where I shot my first, and so far only (hope that changes soon!), deer. It was a few years ago and something I will never forget.
Any of you guys hunt that heard?
I am just starting out so I've been trying to work up some connections with people who have land, or know people who do, and are cool people hunting on their property from time to time. The place seems good for a young guy like me with next to no experience to learn the ropes. Plus I'm a JAFA so its closeby! I thought I'd post on here to see if any of you hunt it and wouldn't mind me tagging along, I'm sure I could sweeten the deal with a box of brews! Cheers!

I reckon you'd have better odds of winning lotto than the Woodhill ballot. Phillip, I am sitting and watching where this thread heads with interest. I would not get excited and read anything into that though.

If you have shot one up there outside of the forest already then that would be the logical place to start.
Otherwise it will need to be a VERY large box of beer or . . .

I've been into Woodhill several times on ballot ,plenty of deer in there with 30+ seen each time .
Lot of young animals & smart for 1 in your party to apply for a hind permit.
Last time the only shootable buck I saw was a white stag he wasn't allowed to be shot.
Lovely stag with a great head but rules are rules.
Apply for a ballot with a couple of mates worth the money just in terms of what you
learn about deer in general. Think the next ballot will be March 2013 .

Where is that in the rules?

Entered twice (3 of us entered) and won a spot twice - yet to shoot one there though - seen plenty

We where asked not to shot it as wanted to breed from .

Think that stag has since been shot & I think was a poacher from what I heard.

Haha yeah I know, but on minimum wage and working 9 hours a week, a box of beers is about all my pocket will allow! Too right, if you don't ask, you'll never receive.

And Barefoot, believe me, I have been trying there. The farmer said he wasn't happy for me to hunting without one of the guys who he knows that already does, so I've been asking those guys but its been like trying to draw blood from a stone. Guy says he'll call me, never does, you know what its like. Oh well, I'll keep trying. Otherwise when the uni holidays roll by I'll be able to do a few night trip on DOC land - something I can't do right now because I'm mon-fri at uni and sat-sun at work.

    Fair enough.
There are a number of guys here that live in Auck and if you don't piss them off one of them may let you come along when they travel south for a bit of venison.
Most of us have just as much trouble getting to to go away as you do though.
