Forgot to mention that up Patriarch way didn’t hear much noice until well after day-break. The two stags opposite Mid Goulter hut I didn’t hear until 11:50 am. I’d been sitting listening for about 30 minutes without hearing anything, shot a goat that wandered out onto scree, a couple of minutes later heard roaring. And no, they wouldn’t have heard suppressed 223 at 2.5km away. Anyhow, you never know when stags are going to make some noise.

A fair bit of roaring during the night in central BOP on Saturday night, must have all come out ready to play after the storm.
They kept going until around 8am Sunday... when a loud bang quieted them down, one of them permanently

Just out from a couple of nights camped in the upper Makaroro. Stags roaring well enough but still pretty half arsed as holding hinds. Hind calls working better than roaring to interest them. Shot one old boy and a couple of silly spikers.

Just got out of Mokaihaha, nice bush block but no animals seen, did 12km in there and majority of the sign is in the front country around the back of the lake. There has to be around 100 newish trap lines through there too which probably didn’t help

Just got out of Mamuku forest, not a peep. Not sure if it’s the hot weather or if the roars packed up for the year because they were pumping in there on the 29th of March

Kaimais has some roaring from 0600-0900 this morning then shut up shop. Gotta be fast to get into them or camp out within a few kms of where you know the animals are.
Missed a solid old 10 this morning. Stalked right on into me while I was roaring. Cunning bugger, maybe next time

I’ll see you there this morning if we’re in the same spot and I’ll fill you in where the stags are haha
