Stags been making a bit of noise around here for the last week or so. Was in Westport last weekend, couple of locals reckoned they’d started over that way.
I'm told they're underway in northern Southland
Yep, Reds roaring in Gwavas/front of Ruahine's. Called a few stags up at work today but were Roaring earlier in the week too.
Few roaring are the back of Fairlie and Kakahu.
Heard the first Lazy moan yesterday about 3pm here.
Heard some moaning near Onekaka, Golden Bay an hour ago.

Went for a wander in the ruahines yesterday in apiti area was all quiet but I sent a few roars out and got 2 stags going pretty well in 2 different catchments, got to within 20 yards of both but made a couple of mistakes and the wind caught me out.managed to bush stalk one on my way out but this one wasn't roaring.Attachment 271059

The reds are roaring up at the main divide as of the weekend just been.
dead quiet no1 line Pohangina today.i saw a stag on a small slip in the head gully before it drops off to kiritaki track.roared at him he didn't even bother looking at me just kept feeding.i shot him, wasnt pissed up in the slightest.
3 days ago hunters on the Arawhata told us they were all pissed up but not roaring yet. Yesterday morning was brisk and clear, so that may help things along. But it's now grey warm and drizzly so could delay them again.
Going for a look in Ureweras this weekend.
Very little noise in the Snowdon forest yet. Stags still mobbed up. Hopefully they burst into life this weekend.
Have the moose started up yet?
Nothing talking in peel forest yet...stags in paddocks yes,in the bush, silence.
Quiet in Nelson Lakes as yet...
I had a bit of a look around to the north of there (across the river) last Tuesday MD and saw two stags together with a group of hinds just feeding. We shot a yearling in a different gully and watched one of the stags depart with the hinds. Strange thing was he had a broken antler and appeared to be limping but had the girls, and saw the other stag a bit later and he was a better animal. Maybe he was gay.
Again, no noise other than on the surrounding farms.
I hope everyone has a good roar last few roars been terrible where I go - just to warm- hunting in summer shirt- only roaring at night -- not great
Overnighted in Pureora Nth blk last night, Didn't hear any roaring. Met a hunter on his way out on my way in, he had only heard one moan for the day.
Farm stags are roaring every second night or so.
tararuas farm edge Eketāhuna area just starting, a couple of moans, saw a mob of around 15 half stags half hinds feeding together.
Just got back from pureora- can confirm no roars. Called it quits early.
I think it’s still to warm.
Nothing making noise yesterday wallows being used plenty of rubbings very hot cornflake country in bush. Kahurangi area
If it wasn't enough to have to chase the cat round 3 times last night to get mice off her before she frees them in the house two stags in the forest over the river started up about 3 am. Honestly what does it take to get a quiet night.
