Am planning a wee walk about in the Kawekas some time over the next 2 weeks. Is there any snow about yet?

theres snow somewhere , been blardy cold here...
according to the weatherman there's plenty coming later this week :ORLY:
There was a dusting on the tops from the cool snap end of April.
It was still sitting on the ground on the high flats of Golden Hills, and this was our view from the hut at GH Airstrip
on the 2nd May

@Tahr
I believe there will be a significant snow fall this weekend due to the low pressure system approaching.
I can't see the Kaweka at the moment due to the rain, maybe it's snowing up there right now.
It's also been quite cold and frosty here this week.
Cheers
Pete
Thanks chaps. I see that its shit this Friday and then clearing. I might get in after that goes through but for a challenging tops walk by myself I've probably left it too late. I will probably go Lakes/Kiwi Saddle/Castle Camp and maybe Rogue Ridge or back the way I came. If its shit at least I have KS & CC to hold up in.
Cheers
I see them from my deck - loads of white stuff last weekend. Was too foggy this morning to notice, sorry. Will have a peek after work [emoji28]

A good amount of Snow fell on the Napier - Taupo road today.
Kaweka will definitely have snow on it as a result.

Thanks chaps. Snow on the Rimutakas tonight too. Craigc and I went out and got a pig, and the chill factor in the wind was extreme. Poor little Grandson got very cold in-spite of his good gear, so I had to walk out with him a bit early. Craig got back to the ute after dark and found us in it with the motor running and heater on. :)
It looks like I might have left my Kaweka walk about a bit late.
Dessert roads closed now.Snow from Takapari and further north along our Range
It was farkin cold up by lake tutira just out of Napier today. That southerly with the rain sucked hairy balls!
I wasn't cold... you should have tried scrambling up a steep and muddy, from pig digging, hill in your gumboots! ;-) Or are you a bit smarter than your son...
Bloody cold out Taupo rd today!!!! Fire lighting in process in Havelock

Was up on the main range on Monday. Fair bit of snow around up on Kaweka J in places but overall not too bad. Has rained up there since and a fair bit has gone. Big tarns up on the main range where frozen to the point where you could walk right across them. There was a bit of snow out toward Kiwi Saddle on Monday but I would expect most of that is gone now. Could be alright for a wander
Any updates? This was an awesome thread.
Kaimanawa tops were covered in areas the other day. Mate flew over pikiawatea. Not quite kawekas but not too far away haha
