Anybody with connections at FGNZ?
Does anybody have any connections with someone at Fish and Game New Zealand that might be willing to have a chat with me? I just have a few questions that I'd like to ask and I would feel better talking to a friend of a friend or some such rather than just "cold calling" a random F&G office. As I mentioned in my introduction a few months back I will have almost 20 years experience in fisheries research when we move to NZ. I am just not familiar with how things are different there and I would gain a lot by just asking simple questions of someone in the know. Like for instance I see that the 'situations vacant' on the FGNZ website says that the 3 jobs posted close(ed) on Oct/Nov 2021...but they're still posted. Does that mean that nobody applied for the positions and they are still open or have they just not taken down the postings? Here in the states, the northwest especially, there are so many fisheries students that enter the workforce every year that all the jobs get taken. Also I see that they have "Fish and Game Officer- Ecologist" as a position, to be honest that is my dream job. When I was younger I wanted to be a Fish and Game Officer (Game Warden) but I became a biologist instead. I wonder if they have "Fish and Game Officer- Biologist" positions? Or maybe biologist/ecologist is just the same thing? Yes of course my expertise lies in fisheries but my degree is in Fisheries and Wildlife and studying populations, planning and conducting research projects and managing populations is basically the same whether you are talking about fish, deer or crocodiles. Of course there will be a lot to learn when I get there but I like learning new things and don't mind working hard in the field and putting in extra hours in the career that I love.
