Anybody on here from Victoria au?

Looks like I might have to up sticks and head to Victoria next year. The wife is from there and her family are in castlemain vic. Anybody know if there is much in the way of fishing and hunting around that neck of the woods? I know the sambar and fallow are available around Mansfield where my partner grew up.

    Any advice or opinions appreciated.

I'm from Bendigo originally, just up from Castlemaine.
There is some decent public land hunting south of there around Fryerstown and Glenluce and further down towards Taradale.
I saw some pics of a few absolute cracker red stags that came out of some private land at Trentham too.
Expect the fishing and hunting to be a touch different to what you're used to!

Is it mainly private land or can you hunt on public land like here? From what I've read you need a game license but it's confusing as where you can and can't hunt.

$55 over counter enables plethora of public land and Narional Park hunting...
Whilst the animals are srill classed as Game...
Once they knock the Game class off. Park hunting ceases... master plan.

Google GMA hunting maps or youtube HilldogTV GMA hunting maps for indepth info for seeking Pibloc Land hunting areas in great detail.

May tale 4 minutes to work out but you aught to be sussing it closely..often.

    Both public and private.

Use these maps and toggle the hunting layer on
    https://mapshare.vic.gov.au/MapShareVic/
The hunting layer is under the "more to explore" layer

From the app store down load "more to explore" select hunting from the top menu by sliding it to the left. It's self explanatory.
Hunt safe, look after the bush & plug more pests. The greatest invention in the history of man is beer.

I recommend the more to explore app. I'm about 3 hours west of Castlemaine and there is a shit ton of deer between Castlemaine and me.

Can you elaborate a bit more on this? Is it in the pipeline?

Vics system is/was pretty good and it would be a shame if it regressed with so much public land and so many deer.

Hope you don’t have too much interest in waterfowl hunting. Vic government is currently considering a ban.
