Anyone built there own chiller cooled by car a/c unit

Anyone attempted it? Automotive a/c pump run off an electric motor

Never heard of it but that's not to say it can't be done. @kiwijames is a fridgy so he will know if it could work. The only problem I can see in my limited knowledge might be that you need an evaporator sufficient enough not to dry out the meat.
I can't store beer in cartons in my chiller for long because they get damp enough to fall apart.

But meat is chilled perfectly.

I wouldn't think it would have the cooling capacity, definitely not to get close to 4 degrees

It would be a long shot. The AC pump would be a possible but condenser evaporator and all the other items needed would probably make it a no go.

So the entire setup from a digger or whatever wouldn't be compatible?

Have a big one that has a York pump on it with a single phase motor

Ive quite often cooled meat on the front floor of my ute for a few hours with the motor and A/C turned on. But I don't 'suppose that is any help to you :)

@Smiddy. You've got the AC pump. It will have a 12VDC clutch to engage so you need both a 230VAC motor and a DC supply = more cost
What do you plan to use for the evaporator and condenser? The A/C ones are going to be fiddly with 12VDC fans and needing to be enclosed for correct airflow, plus they will be aluminium connections with hose connections so either a hose doctor (with AC connection fittings as they're not standard hydraulic) or some other connection arrangement.

Message me what you have and I can give you an idea as to what a small fridge system will cost. I'm assuming you have a chiller box.

I have the complete system from a digger, so compressor, condenser, receiver dryer, and the heater box with the evaporator in it aswell as the fan etc, I have all hoses for the system,
The 24v supply needed to make these work is no issue.

I just don't know if the system is capable of cooling a chiller box say 2mx2mx2m

As James said that's the wrong way to go around it.

Depending on how much meat you want to chill and how often you fill the fridge you would be better off buying an old fridge off trademe. Put a bit of ply on the top shelf with some eye let's to hang the legs from.

James can correct me if I'm wrong as I'm only an apprentice but I can't see an ordinary fridge not being able to chill a cut up deer fine.

Just don't pay too much for an old fridge.

Thats whats wrong with that. Like shooting deer with a 22. It CAN be done but not really a good idea.
Upright fridge is good, especially the commercial ones. A mate bought one the other day, double door, $600. Keep an eye out.

Could try greys auctions. The commercial fridges chew the electricity but if you only use it for short periods of time it'll be ok.

We use an old double door bottle fridge like the ones in the dairys. just glued insulation to the glass doors to make it a bit more efficent.

The chiller at work was great, only had kegs in it.

Why don't you build the box as in your line of work this will most likely be the dearest part
And slap the digger ac on the side or top and see what happens?
