Have hunted the USA several times. Will get back for more at some stage.
Found pretty good opportunities for some interesting species.
Went to Arkansas November 2023 for the duck hunting festival in Stuttgart, but didn't have time to hunt as I had some family commitments while I was there. I'm definitely keen to head back again and hunt some birds.
We have mostly whitetail, pigs where I’m at but been trying to go out west for something last few yrs elk, mule deer aoudad and whatever else we can get drawn for , hopefully take my oldest for pronghorn this fall
Never hunted in the USA, but after hunting aoudad in the Karoo and bagging some pretty good trophies I got bitten by the big horn bug.
Hunting Aoudad proofed to be some of the hardest hunts I've done in my life. They love mountains.

Agree, 100%. Have hunted Aoudad only in Texas and they are a challenge. Texans call the terrain "mountains" although it's not but the physical challenge is not vestly less. Aoudad are super switched on and busted stalks are very typical. Hunting them is a big test of patience, persistence and tactics.
That same bug has bitten me @Jaco Goosen
I've hunted just basic tags in Colorado and Montana for deer and Elk. Shoot a good mule deer with a Muzzle loader in Colorado and a few nice whitetails in Montana. But I can't bring myself to shoot an elk that not significantly better than the red stags I've got in NZ. I'm happy to eat tag soup in order to hold out. I'm off to Alaska to chase Caribou this year then I'll probably try get a muzzleloade elkd tag in Colorado Next year as I think the muzzleloader hunt for early season alpine mule deers one of the best hunts I have done.
If any kiwis want to head over feel free to reach out. I'm an alpine hunter primarily so my focus goes towards the species that encompasses but a big public land bull Elks a goal.
They are super cool we didn’t get to soak it in much we spotted some in morning and snuck around big plateau while we was waiting on them to get up another group showed up around another plateau my buddy took good ram then I hustled over anf located other ram leaving out up mt and he stopped to look back and I got him so we was done quick, we was far sw tx in big bend Marfa area, supposed to go back but keep having to push back
What part of Colorado you go to we hunted Sw 3rd season it was our first trip for muleys![]()
Thats Ol Mexico just couple miles behind me
See many moose around that unit
I’ve hunted a few western states. I’ve been the last 10 years but missed two during Covid. Had some awesome hunts and have taken bear, elk, whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn and coyote. All DIY public land, including hunt swaps with hunters from over there.
Im planning to head over to Colorado this year for a third season mule deer and elk hunt in unit 49. If anyone has any tips on 49, let me know![]()
