I know a lot but it seems less every day...

Due to the exorbitant cost of reloading components, warning shots will not be given.

Link doesn't work but you have to wonder what the guy was doing in his "garden" late at night
Probably the pig was only after a bit of pain relief

I despair a bit reading about the locals' requests for DOC to sort it out and how hard it is to get DOC or anyone else to take ownership ... I had hoped there was still enough "No.8 wire mentality" left in rural NZ that the community would just quietly sort it out themselves. Or, if needed, an informal community meeting at the school hall or pub to get the majority on board, send out a couple of pig hunters with dogs, and next weekend a community dinner with roast pork.

I do believe land owners in Otago are required to control pests on their own property. I know the reginal council is always after the lowborn lifestyle blockers and such for failing to do it. Not sure if pig are considered pests though.

Pigs aren't listed as pests in the Otago Regional Council RPMP except for at 3 site-specific places near Dunedin.

There is an interview with the guy on RNZ. Sounds like the pigs in the area have lost all fear of humans and are just roaming the streets. I don't think anyone in St Bathans (all 6 of them) owns a gun.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
