Anyone in Otago (Dunedin way) keen for a hunt?

    Hi all,

I am new to hunting, 32 year old female, have a 7mm08 suppressed and have gotten a goat but would love to get a deer! Ultimate goal and am keen to learn anything!
Is there anyone in the Otago (Dunedin) area that is keen for a hunting friend- day- early morning dusk hunts etc. Have weekends off and every second Friday.

    Thanks, Steph

I'm Dunedin based and do a bit of hunting nearby. Suggest putting in some applications for the Blue Mountains, hard not to see a deer up there even if they can be a bit tricky to actually shoot at times! Feel free flick me a message.

If you can't get after a deer there's plenty of goats in the DOC blocks close to town. Shooting a few will build confidence and around here they're quite cunning. They can quickly disappear into the bush making it better sport than in Central Otago or Queenstown I reckon.

    Very true.
Also a contributing factor as tp why I now live in central otago, rather than coastal otago. Bush stalking isn't my cup of tea...

I hope you got plenty of offers by PM out of the public eye, but i thought there would of been more interest shown here.
I have helped plenty of young fellas get a hunting start but was tired of the bravado and you tube know it all attitudes
My FAL vettor ask me to help a young lady from a non shooting family that went through all the hoops for a license and wanted to hunt deer.
I was blown away by her attitude and ability to listen.
After a few lessons and range days i unleashed her into the wild. Me guiding and her shooting.
There was grumbling in the local club coz her stags were bigger than the boyz and it was a fun challenge.
Now two years on and she stopped hunting with me i missed by protege this roar.
I didn't want to be THAT GUY offering to take girls out the bush on a public forum but straight up, all legit . I will make the offer .

Hope someone from the forum pulls through, Could always try the local NZDA branch. the Auckland branch had a lot of girls become members back when I used to go 2019/2020. IIRC maybe 5 or 6. Enough for a ladies only party hunt and their coffee dates etc.

@stepht28 you'll need to post a few more times before people can start sending you PM’s.

Joint you local (Dunedin) NZDA is also good sound advice due to regular club trips.

Moving to another area can be hard too as I'm finding, been back up here coming up a year and shot a couple of goats and not even seen a deer apart from one on the road driving home.
