Join the Palmerston North NZDA or the Wanganui hunting club. You need to be pre-active and help yourself a wee bit first.
I'd like to get onto a deer in the Kaimais, riding up those hills would be fucking sweet.
Look on Google earth or NZ topo maps satellite imagery and topo maps for slips. Last three deer I shot 30 mins from Palmy were 5-30m away on open slips. Often there is enough cover to get in close. I'm a pussy though and have yet to put my bow onto medium game.

Our club, Wanganui dist Hunters & Stalkers, has just recently taken on a few bow hunters and looking to possibly incorporate a bow/rifle club. The Bow guys are looking to build a outdoor course in near future. Unfortunately alot of land (private) around here is really hard to get on but there is heaps of public land. 42nd traverse wouldnt be to bad for a bow.
