    Arawhata

I'm sure somebody here will have some idea but was wondering what the deer numbers are like in the Arawhata after the big aerial 1080 drops it has had the last few years. Hunted it previous to these drops but not since. Not after any hotspots but just a general idea.

You must know what your are doing. The Arawhata is tough country. Only ever seen skinny deer in there myself.

Only hunted it once and saw one, a 2,3 year old fat perfect symetrical 12 pt stag which we let walk. Sign of low to moderate numbers was there but the stags were quiet and it was slow going. Nice to know whether it's worth going back.

I was in there late march/april, very few deer on the tops following extensive WARO over the past few seasons. We spent 3-4 days on tops and saw 0 deer, a few chams tho. Dropped to the flats, afew more deer there, and shot a couple of stags for meat, not a lot of animals... but fantastic spot all the same, a fair few jet boats using the river each day too, massive country!

I’d say the lower half of the valley on the flats would be where the deer will be as the top end has had a lot of 1080 over the years
